INTRO

Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashami (विजयदशमी).
It is a major Indian festival which is celebrated with great pomp. it is usually celebrated on the tenth day of Navratri and it falls between September and October month.
 
Vijayadashami (Dussehra) is celebrated in India for various reasons and is celebrated differently in different regions such as Durga Devi killed a demon buffalo asura (महिषासुर) on the day of Vijayadashami in southern, eastern, India and this day is celebrated as Durga pooja.
 
And in the northern, central, and western states, the festival is synonymously called Dussehra.
NOTE: In these regions, it marks the end of Ramilia and remembers God Rama’s victory over the Ravan.
On the same day, Arjun alone decimated more than 1,000,000 soldiers and defeated all kuru warriors including Drona, Ashwatthama, Karna, and Kripa, a perfect example of victory good over evil.

In today’s time, everyone knows about Ramayana, so in this paragraph, you will be told about some scenes of Ramayana.
As you will know, Dusshera is celebrated because Ravan (रावण) was killed by God Ram (भगवान राम) on this day, which is a proper example of the victory of good over evil.
This Ramayana tells the story of Lord Rama, how he regained mother Sita from Ravana.
 
Ravan has an important role in the Ramayana. Ravan had a sister named shoorpanakha (शूर्पणखा) and he fell in love with Laxman and asked him to merry but Laxman flatly refused.
Then shoorpanakha got angry and tried to kill Sita Mata at the time “Laxman cut shoorpanakha nose”. 
 
Due to this she became very angry and went to her brother Ravan. Ravana (the king of Lanka) decided to take revenge on Ram and Laxman.
Later Ravan ammunition Sita Mata and was on their way. then jatayu (who was a vulture) tried to stop Ravan but Ravan cut off one of his wings.
 
That is why the battle was fought by Ram Ji and Laxman Ji to save Mata Sita (सीता माता) in which Hanuman Ji and his huge army of monkeys were joined with him.
 
Ramayan and Mahabharat (महाभारत) are such a story in Hindu history, which Hindu children know very well about his thrill, love, action, and adventure.
Where there were five Pandav brothers in Mahabharat, who fought with 100 Kauravas brothers and won the battle.
Similarly, Mahabharat and Ramayan Will be phenomenal examples of the victory of good over evil all over the world for thousands of years.

3. Who is Ravana (लंकापति रावण)

Ravana is widely considered to be a symbol of evil, he is considered a great ruler.
Ravana has many qualities that make him a learned sage muni. Ravana had good knowledge of six scriptures and four Vedas. this is why Ravan was proud. 
 
In the Ramayana, Ravana kidnaps Ram’s wife Sita. this proved to be his biggest mistake.
Many beliefs also tell that “Ravana had so much knowledge that he knew.
He died at the hands of Shri Ram so Ravana kidnapped the mata site, where she kept Sita Mat as a prisoner in Ashoka Vatika”.
 
It is also mentioned in many Vedas that, Ravan was so powerful that he lifted the Himalayan mountains with his own hands and was so patient that he did many austerities for many years to get from Shivaji that he sought “Sri Lanka” (Shivaji created Sri Lanka for Parvati Ji which was full of gold) from him.

4. How do people celebrate the day of Dussehra?

Ravandahan

In many areas in India, celebrations of Dussehra begin celebrating 10 days in advance. 
  • The Dussehra show is held 10 days before Dusshera in many cities in western, middle, and northern India.
  • The rally originates from the Mysore Palace on the day of dusshera in the state of Karnataka, whose main attraction is the statue of Chamundeshwari Devi which is placed inside a golden mantapa (which is about 750 kg gold) above the decorated elephants.
  • In Bengal, dusshera is celebrated as Durga puja, or the day is considered very important and auspicious for the Bengali calendar. on this day everyone wakes up early in the morning and it is believed that Maa Durga (माँ दुर्गा) destroyed the demon named Mahishasura (महिषासुर).
  • In many states of India like Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Gujarat, etc. Ravan is lit on the day of dusshera. like we started making Ravan a month ago and on the day of dusshera first, we worshipping (पूजा करना) then we burn Ravan. it is a symbol of good over evil (यह बुराई पर अच्छी का प्रतीक है)
Hindus believe that Dussehra is an auspicious occasion to make a good start.
They may also exchange the gift of the Shami tree (Prosopis spicigera) as a symbol of the story of the exile of the Pandavas in the Mahabharat. 

5. National Holiday of India

Vijayadashami like Dussehra is a public holiday. In India, schools and most offices are closed on this day. 
But this time the school is already closed due to Coronavirus. dusshera in 2020 is coming on 25 OCT 2020 on Sunday, so most offices will remain closed. 
 
Government, post, and bank offices are closed in India on Dussehra. businesses, organizations, or stores may be closed or their opening hours may be reduced.
If people wishing to use cars, bikes on this day, contact local transport authorities to get their work done on time or check the timetable

6. Symbols (प्रतीक)

Symbols are seen throughout the Vijayadashami as (dusshera) included:
  • Bonfire and fireworks
  • Bengal women put vermilion on the head of Maa Durga.
  • Burn effigies of Ravan
  • Chamundeshwari Devi worshiped in Karnataka
  • A symbol of victory of good over evil

CONCLUSION

Dussehra is celebrated because Ravan (रावण) was killed by God Ram (भगवान राम) on this day, which is a proper example of the victory of good over evil.
 
Ravana had good knowledge of six scriptures and four Vedas. this is why Ravan was proud.
 
In many states of India like Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Gujarat, etc. Ravan is lit on the day of dusshera.
