Our teeth are one of the strongest parts of our body, which is also vital for food to break into little pieces and prepare for swallowing and digestion.
So This post will describe – Our teeth health as possible essential things which you should know.
Our Teeth
Contents
Teeth are made up of protein, such as collagen, and minerals, such as calcium.
Human teeth are like other mammals, such as elephants, bears, squirrels, etc, which means – they also have two sets of teeth which include:
Milk teeth: This stage normally contains 20 teeth, they start to appear around 6 months of age, and discomfort also occur, it also known as baby teeth.
Adult teeth: These start coming after the age of 5 to 7 years and a person of about 22 years old has 32 permanent teeth.
Types of Teeth
There are 4 major types of teeth which include:
1. Incisors Teeth
These are 8 in number, located in the front part of our mouth, 4 in the upper, and 4 in the lower jaw.
Function – They all are the same in shape and have sharp edges, they work like scissors to cut food into small pieces.
2. Canine Teeth
These are 4 in amount and located next to the incisors and in the front part (2 uppers and 2 bottoms).
Function – They are our sharp, and pointy surface teeth, which are used to tear food like meat. it starts occurring b/w the ages of 9 to 13.
3. Premolars Teeth
It is located after the canine, which is 8 in number, 4 in the lower jaw, and 4 in the upper jaw, and these are bigger than the canine, and incisors, as you see in the diagram.
Function – These are used for crushing, and tearing food for example – used in nut-cracking, they all grow b/w 9 to 12 age and are also known as bicuspids.
4. Molars Teeth
They are located in the back of our mouth, and we have 12 in number, 6 on the lower, and 6 on the bottom jaw, and are our strongest and biggest teeth.
Function: It helps us to grind up food, molars are larger on the surface, so it makes it easy to swallow the food, and at the age of 6 the first molar teeth come.
What Are Wisdom Teeth (अक़ल ढाडें)?
Wisdom is also a part of molar teeth which are also known as 3rd molar teeth. these teeth usually come between the ages of 17 to 25.
Wisdom teeth have 4 in number, 2 on the upper side and 2 on is down.
Most people remove wisdom teeth because of painful disturbances during chewing food.
If you are also facing tremendous pain in your gums, so remove it as soon as possible, because leaving it like this can become a source of many illnesses including:
- Gum infection
- Cavities
- Tooth decay
- Damage to the side tooth
Function
According to the study on humune which shows that wisdom teeth may have been needed by our ancestors millions of years ago.
NOTE: Chewing raw food like nuts, raw meat, etc, also has a larger jaw than today’s people, and requires a lot of chewing, but we learned to convert food into soft cooked foods.
The size of the jaw also began to shrink and their need would start decreasing.
Teeth and Tooth Difference
The concept behind these teeth is plural, and the tooth is singular.
A pair of the tooth is called teeth and a single tooth is called a tooth.
Why Do Teeth Turn Yellow?
- Our tooth basically consists of 3 parts, the outer part is enamel (white in colour)
- The second layer is dentine (yellow in color)
- Last the pulp, which has nerves, and blood vessels.
NOTE: When we consume beverages, drink or eat acidic fruits, such as lemon, orange juice, soft drinks, etc.
These things destroy or spoil the enamel by exposing the dentine and thus the teeth look yellow.
But some people naturally have yellowish teeth why?
This is because, in such people, the layer of enamel is thin causing the yellow color of the dentine to show up more visible.
Thus, causing their teeth to show up naturally yellowish.
Humans Tooth Structure
The structure of the tooth is not that hard to understand:
Crown: The upper or visible part of the tooth is the crown, while the lower part is called the root, the root is fixed on the jaw and is hidden.
Enamel: The hardest material in our body.
Cementum: Below the enamel, there is a bone-like material also called dentine, which helps to fix each jaw firmly into the jawbone.
Pulp (Nerve): It contains blood vessels and nerve fibers, and supply vital nutrients to the cementum.
Gum: The root portion of each tooth is surrounded by the gums, it is also known as gingiva.
What is a Tooth Cavity?
A tooth cavity is a hole in the teeth that is created from the tooth root, to prevent tooth cavities proper brushing, and dental cleaning.
If you are late to see the cavity then talk to dental care.
