Carrier oil is used with essential oils because Essential oil is very potent and using it directly on your skin can cause irritation, redness, or discomfort.

And carrier oil will be conveyed in a straightforward or simple way so that you are better able to understand what exactly carrier oil is.

What Exactly Is Carrier Oil?

Carrier oil is also known as “Base oil or Vegetable oil like coconut oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil.

It is used to dilute essential oil before applying it to the skin and aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is a healing treatment with the help which people treating their minds, soul, and body.

Carrier oil is such oil that extracts from plants.

This oil is used to dilute essential oil because it is very effective on the skin.

Make sure, don’t use it directly over the skin, it may irritate your skin and causes redness, and swelling, due to high concentration.

It does not have a concentrated aroma unlike essential oil and carrier oil is cold-pressed oil (it is a process by which oil is extracted without any other heating or chemical products) that does not evaporate.

Different types of carrier oil have their own properties and different frequencies which make them unique.

A true carrier oil is an oil that does not have additional products and processes by cold-pressed, and maceration processes.

There are given some true carrier oils which include:

Avocado

It has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory tools that help your skin stay soft, durable, and elastic. 

Dense and green-colored avocado oil is truly considered a carrier oil.

There are several benefits of applying avocado oil which include:

  • Protect skin from UV rays

Coconut

Coconut oil has the highest amount of lauric acid approx 12%, which makes up 50% of fatty acids.

It is also available in refined and unrefined properties. and antimicrobial properties are also found in this oil.  

Researcher shows that the benefits of lauric acid are based on how the body uses acid.

A 2009 study showed that lauric acid (coconut oil) may reduce inflammation as well as reduce the number of bacteria present.

The scent of coconut oil and its use with essential oil. it can be applied to the skin, hair, and lips, and a thin layer that leaves behind protects the skin.

Jojoba

Jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory and healing qualities that help in skin repair and damage control.

This is the best option for those who have dry skin, it is commonly used in massage due to its anti-inflammatory attributes. 

Anti-oxidants present in jojoba can help slow down signs of aging when used on your skin.

It is a good choice as a massage in aromatherapy for those with oily and acne-prone skin.

Olive

Olive oil comes from olives fruits, which are also extracted through cold-pressed processes, and are also used as a carrier oil in aromatherapy. 

It is very good at blackening our white hair and consuming also a good option for our overall health.

Rich in fatty acids and plant sterols, which make it great for moisturizing and cleansing dry skin.

And many test-tube studies show that olive oil can fight cancer cells. 

Use olive oil as a carrier oil for facial massage, hair care, cosmetics, and homemade soaps.

Rosehip

Rosehip oil is rich in both polyphenols and anthocyanin which may reduce inflammation.

It contains vitamin E which is an antioxidant that is known for its anti-inflammatory effects. 

A Rosehip is fully filled with skin-nourishing vitamins and vital fatty acids.

A 2015 Study showed that rosehip oil has the ability to retain skin moisture and provides many anti-ageing properties. 

Rosehip oil contains valuable fatty acids and antioxidants for the skin, which is very helpful for regenerating tissue and cells in the skin.

Flaxseed oil

It is cold-pressed from the seeds of the flax plant. Flaxseed oil is believed to help relieve fatigue and prevent signs of ageing. 

It can treat different skin conditions and its ability to relieve inflammation is due to the structure which is its main (ALA) alpha-linolenic acid. 

Flax seeds oil is an incredible option for dealing with skin conditions like psoriasis or eczema.

This oil balances your skin Ph level which improves skin quality and removes blemishes, and moisture in your skin.

Difference/between a carrier and essential oil

Its support system and nutrition together with the essential oil help to protect against possible side effects such as skin irritation, redness, or hair loss.

How To Use a Carrier Oil With An Essential Oil?

As much as possible, you should take carrier oil by the cold-pressed process because it is not made from any heat or chemicals.

Cold-pressed oil also has many advantages or disadvantages and almost all carrier oil does not cause any allergic reaction.

Additionally, you should always do a patch test before using it on your skin or whatever you want to use.

Mix Carrier oil with Essential Oil

It’s no rocket science. you just have to remember that there are many essential oils that cannot be applied directly, so it is better to apply them along with carrier oil.

Here are some common tips to dilute carrier oil with essential oil are:

  • Take 2 to 3 drops of essential oil (of your choice), now add 1 to 2 drops 1 to 2 teaspoon carrier oil.
  • Mix it well, so they dilute very well with each other.
  • Now you can apply it to your skin, and use it at bath time.

NOTE: Much essential oil acts as toxic inside our body. but some essential oil like (peppermint, and rosemary essential oil) is not safe to use in children.

Mix carrier oil with essential, if you use it directly on your skin you may suffer skin problems including skin irritation, redness, and inflammation.

This oil is very greasysticky, and heavy oil.

Flaxseed oil is believed to help relieve fatigue and prevent signs of aging.  and it can treat different skin conditions like dry skin and its ability to relieve inflammation.
