Vata, Pitta, and Kapha in Ayurveda are one of the oldest forms of treating illness and diseases.
Ayurveda originated in India about 5000 years ago. It means in Sanskrit – “The science of life” and is often referred to as the “Mother of all healing“.
It is not only related to medicines.
Rather the knowledge of this enables a person to understand how to balance the body, mind, and consciousness according to their constitution.
What are Ayurveda and Dosha?
Contents
According to Ayurveda, as we all have a unique fingerprint, each person has a different pattern of energy and have a different nature.
It must have been heard a lot that we all have the same body, but Ayurved completely disproves this thing.
NOTE: You can understand it this way – Some of us like spicier while some like sweet food.
Some people like winter, and some like summer. so it is our nature which we call Doshas that determines our likes or dislikes.
Ayurveda say our body and earth are made up of 5 elements these include:
- Fire
- Water
- Earth
- Air
- Space
These 5 elements combine to form the 3 senses of “Vata, Patta, and Kapha” also called Tridoshas, which are the cornerstone of Ayurvedic principles.
In Fact, Ayurveda also believes that all systems on earth whether it is non-living or living things, are made up of these 5 elements in varying degrees.
What Is Vata, Pitta, and Kapha?
NOTE: These are called dosha because they keep happening less and more.
We all have this dosh, but one is the highest, the second is less than that and the third is the least.
The balance of these 3 doshas is called health and disease arises only due to their deterioration.
Vata
Air is the active element in Vata dosha. space (also known as Ether) has a regulatory element.
Vata dosha controls breathing, blinking, heart beating, muscle and tissue movement, and all movements in the body.
- In Balance: Flexibility, creativity, learning quickly, multitasking, kind-hearted, and naturally slim.
- Out of Balance: Disturb all body contact, and lead to dryness, gas, bloating, indigestion, trouble sleeping, body pain, depression, and a fickle mind.
The wind moves slowly and the space expands. if space does not expand or contract, the air will move faster this is the inherent part of this dosha.
