So far we have not been able to recover properly from the Covid a new disease has come – black fungus.

It is a type of fungus that has two types – black fungus, and white fungus which affects many people in India.

The infection seems to be most impactful for those suffering from severe Covid-19 patients.

Special NOTE: This is another disease that is spread in India very fast.

There are several states in India where the black fungus has been declared an epidemic such as:

  • Gujarat
  • Rajasthan
  • Punjab,
  • Tamil Nadu
  • Telangana, and gradually black fungus is spreading across India.

What is Black Fungus?

The black fungus also known as “mucormycosis” is a kind of fungus that spreads easily among people struggling with diseases.

It is an aggressive and invasive fungal infection caused by malls called ‘Nucor my seeds‘ these moles are present in the environment, such as dust particles, algae, etc.

The infection can occur after someone breathes in spores.

Black fungus mainly affects people who have low immunity like in the case of covid-19.

And who take medicine for a long time which lowers the body’s ability to fight germs and sickness.

Note: Black fungus is a normal fungus that affects 1 in 10,00,000 people, but with an overall mortality rate of 50 percent.

If it is normal, then why so people are affected and dying from it? because their immune system is weak and the Immune system remains weak.

Also, people with high blood pressure, diabetes, and AIDS are at high risk because their immune system is lower than healthy people.

There are 15+ states where the black fungus has spread and some states where it has been declared an epidemic.

In Delhi, about 200 to 300 patients with black fungus are reported.

The situation has become such that the shortage of medicines near the well-known AIIMS hospital in Delhi has started appearing.

There are 3 government hospitals in Delhi that have been approved for the treatment of black fungus, including:

  • LNJP hospital
  • GTP hospital
  • Rajiv Gandhi super-specialist hospital.

This disease is so dangerous that you can estimate it in such a way that a separate ward has been made for the victims of a hospital in Rajasthan.

To save the lives of admitted patients, they had to remove patients’ eyes or jaws.

What are the Causes of black fungus?

This fungal infection is caused by a “group of molds” called micromycetes. and the main causes of this infection include:

  • Environment soil
  • Food
  • Algae
  • Misuse of steroids, or consuming steroids during Covid treatment is a major cause of the black fungus.
  • Humidifiers
  • The main reason for low immunity

This affects people who have health problems or take medicines that lower the body’s ability to fight germs and sickness.

After the Covid treatment, the immunity of the person is low which is the major reason for the black fungus.

Who is at High Risk?

It’s all a game of Low immunity and high immunity.

People who are at high risk such as:

  • Covid patients (who have been given high steroids to cure them, due to which their immunity is weakened)
  • Diabetes patients
  • HIV patients
  • Sugar patients
  • high blood pressure
  • low immunity for any reason is at high risk of black fungus.

Symptoms of Black Fungus

The infection of the black fungus falls around the eyes and jaws and if it is not treated quickly it can spread to other parts of the body causing death.

Some early signs/symptoms which you can see in the condition include:

  • Dryness, and pain in the nose
  • Pain in eyes
  • Black spot inside the nose, or mouth
  • Nasal blockage
  • Headache
  • Toothache
  • Brown colour discharge in the nose
  • Swelling around the nose, or eyes

And other symptoms seen in severe times are:

  • Blood in vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • Infection in the lungs leads to severe condition
  • Blindness

And once it reaches the brain, it can be naturally fatal, which can also lead to death.

How Does it Get Inside Us?

Mostly, fungal spores are floating in the environment and go inside people who have low immunity.

It also gets inside you through cuts, burns, or other types of skin trauma.

And if it enters inside you and defeats immunity, it will travel straight in through your nose sinus, and lungs, where it can prove to be very dangerous by reaching your brain.

Black Fungus and White Fungus

Some time ago, the black fungus came to India which increase more difficulty of this covid situation.

But then the white fungus also comes, which is said that it is more dangerous than the black fungus.

So let’s go and check out how BF or WF are different from each other:

Black Fungus

This affects the eyes, nose, mouth, and brain in severe cases, and weak immunity people are at high risk of it.

Swelling, nasal blockage, redness, and pain in the eyes, are signs of black fungus.

White Fungus

Its symptoms look like covid, but they were not covid-19, coronavirus, and diabetes people are at high risk of it.

Cough, fever, diarrhea, dark spots on the lungs, and reduced oxygen level are symptoms of white fungus.

Treatment Available

After infecting a person, it is not located in the same place that spreads from the nose, mouth, and eyes, which can also cause blindness and finally goes to the brain after which its treatment becomes very difficult.

In severe cases the only option that remains is surgery. some patients end up losing their eyes, and upper jaw.

One, and best option to save from black fungus you should strong your immunity before getting infected by it because it is happening more to people with low immunity.
